Welcome to the Town of South Thomaston
ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE JUNE 14TH ELECTION ARE AVAILABLE AT THE TOWN OFFICE.
The South Thomaston Selectboard will hold a public hearing on May 24, 2022 at 6:00pm at the South Thomaston Municipal Building regarding a proposed Ordinance Regulating the Storage of Solid Waste and Junk. A copy of the proposed ordinance can be seen here. Copies are also available at the Town Office.
One of the tennis courts behind the Town Office is now open for play. It’s not perfect, but it’s usable and the net is up. The basketball court is open for play as well. The second tennis court remains closed.
Additionally, there is a portable pickle ball net in the red topped plastic tote located at the tennis court that is available for public use. A pickle ball court is lined on one side of the open tennis court. Please put the net back in the tote when you are done with it and make sure the cover is secured tightly. Have fun.
The project to repair and resurface the tennis courts is on hold, as the town received no bids for this work. The likely bidders indicated that due to staff shortages their schedules for this season are already booked.
Additionally, these specialty contractors expressed concerns that simply patching the cracks in the tennis courts, which has been done twice before in past years, won’t be effective and the cracks are just going to reappear. In light of this information, the plan concerning how to repair the tennis courts is being reevaluated. More to follow.
The Planning Board will not meet May 19, 2022 due to no Commercial applications received and no business items needing attention.
In anticipation of paving Island Road early this summer, in concert with paving work to be done as part of the upcoming road elevation project, the Town will be doing some shoulder work and replacing 3 (perhaps 4) culverts. Weather permitting this work begin next Monday, May 16, 2022. Two of the culverts are located between Rte. 73 and the intersection of Island Road and Village Road. When these two culverts are replaced, the plan is to close that section of Island Road and detour through traffic onto Village Road. The closures are scheduled for Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th. Island Road will be reopened in the late afternoon and remain open at night. This of course is all subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
