Code Enforcement Officer and Local Plumbing Inspector

The Town of South Thomaston is seeking applicants for the position of Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) and Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI). South Thomaston is located in Knox County. It is primarily a residential community with a population of approximately 1,625 which increases substantially in the summer with the arrival of seasonal home owners and vacation renters.
The CEO/LPI reports to a three member Selectboard but exercises considerable independent judgment and discretion on a day-to-day basis.
The CEO/LPI serves as staff to the Planning Board and Board of Appeals and as liaison to relevant State and local agencies.
The CEO/LPI is responsible for administration and enforcement of all municipal ordinances governing land use and State laws/regulations regarding automobile graveyards, junkyards and dangerous buildings, subsurface and internal plumbing as well the town’s public landing ordinance.
The CEO/LPI’s work schedule is flexible. The budgeted hours per week average 20 (14 hrs CEO and 6 hrs LPI) on an annual basis, but there are significant seasonal fluctuations.
Attendance at evening meetings and some and limited weekend work time should be anticipated.
The current budgeted wage is $20.60 per hour. The actual amount will be negotiated based on the selected candidates training and experience.
The CEO must possess and maintain CEO/LPI certification as required by state law as well as a valid driver’s license, a properly registered and insured private vehicle for job use. The ability to deal with the public courteously and firmly under adverse or strained conditions is essential. Excellent organizational, computer, and written and oral communications skills are desired.
