The Town of South Thomaston is seeking applicants for the combined positions of Code Enforcement Officer (CEO), Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI) and Assessors Agent (AA). South Thomaston is located in Knox County. It is primarily a residential community with a population of approximately 1,625 which increases substantially in the summer with the arrival of seasonal home owners and vacation renters.
The CEO/LPI/AA reports to a three member Selectboard but exercises considerable independent judgment and discretion on a day-to-day basis.
The CEO serves as staff to the Planning Board and Board of Appeals. The AA serves as staff to the Board of Assessors (Selectboard). All three positions act as liaison to relevant State and local agencies.
The CEO/LPI is responsible for administration and enforcement of all municipal ordinances governing land use and State laws/regulations regarding automobile graveyards, junkyards and dangerous buildings, subsurface and internal plumbing as well the town’s public landing ordinance.
The AA is responsible for maintaining and updating the property assessment system, assessing new construction, processing and maintaining exemptions and current use parcels, processing and recommending action on abatement requests and a variety of other assessment related functions.
The combine position is on average 35 hours per week Monday-Thursday. Some seasonal fluctuations in hours may be required. Attendance at some evening meetings and very limited weekend work should be anticipated.
The salary range is $45,000 to $55,000 depending on experience, training and certifications. Benefits include health insurance (80% employer premium contribution), paid holidays and vacation, sick and other leaves.
The incumbent must possess and maintain certifications as required by state law as well as a valid driver’s license, a properly registered and insured private vehicle for job use (mileage provided). The ability to deal with the public courteously and firmly under adverse or strained conditions is essential. Excellent organizational, computer, and written and oral communications skills are desired.
