Project Mission Statement

The South Thomaston Library and Community Center will be an inviting and welcoming place for townspeople of all ages to meet, socialize, collaborate, and learn. It will provide spaces large enough to host our annual Town Meeting, and small enough for two friends to catch up over coffee. The spaces will be flexible, carefully sized, and full of natural light, paying close attention to orientation, use, and usability for volunteer staff. The building will honor the local context and the tradition of learning and gathering embodied by the original Grange Hall, the Little Red Schoolhouse Library, and the Gilford Butler Center. No fossil fuels will be consumed during building operations, and the building will generate as much energy as it consumes – minimizing operating costs to the Town. The South Thomaston Library and Community Center will be the new center of town – a point of pride, a gathering place and a durable investment in the future of the Town and its citizens.

The South Thomaston Library / Community Center Facility Committee welcomes you to the news of our ongoing progress. If you know South Thomaston residents who are not here for the winter, we encourage you to forward our Monthly Updates to them.

The Library/Community Center Facility Committee has created a survey asking for input to ensure the building will meet the community’s needs now and in the future. Copies can be picked up at the Town Office or the Library. There is also an on-line survey that can be accessed through a link in the monthly update. You may also Click here for a copy. Surveys may be returned to the Library or the Town Office.
